SPEAKING/WRITING (KingsWynd Ministry)
Mindi Jo Furby is a Southern Cali girl who teases that she’s been in ministry since the womb. Her parents raised her in a Christ-centered home, constantly involving her in a myriad of ministries. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the ripe age of 5, and has grown in a deep and abiding relationship with Him since.
God called her into full-time vocational ministry when she 16 years old, though she had no idea how it would unfold. She decided to move across the country to Lynchburg, VA, to attend Liberty University for college. Since she had no inclination toward a particular aspect of ministry yet, she pursued a degree in Biblical Studies reasoning, “Everyone in ministry should probably know something about the Bible!”
Her expectations and preconceived notions were absolutely shattered. She thought she knew about the Bible (after all, she was an AWANA champ!), but she quickly realized just how little she knew about God’s Word, and by extension, Him. It was a wake-up call in the greatest of proportions.
It was during this time of higher education (which ended up including a Master of Arts in Religion, too) that God gripped her heart for His Word. He burdened her for His people and the obvious lack of biblical foundation we have in our churches and world today.
Upon graduation, she married her best friend and joined the staff of Christ Community Church in Pinehurst, NC. A few months into her new ministry position she was asked to teach a women’s Bible study. Fresh out of seminary (with wisdom and discernment profusely lacking), she titled the class—yes class, not study—“Hermeneutics.” Yep, that’s it. It was a miracle even one woman showed up!
Her burden for the Church’s handicap of biblical illiteracy ignited a consuming fire during this study and the several that followed. Without fail, after every first night women would approach her sobbing—telling her that they never knew what the Bible really was. In church for years, no one had ever explained to them the magnitude of Scripture or how to read, interpret and apply it themselves.
God finally revealed her niche in ministry--joining the front lines in the fight against biblical illiteracy.
These hermeneutics studies produced her first book, More than Words: Understanding the Ancient Book in a Modern World. They also ignited a yet unknown passion to Mindi—public speaking. Through these studies, Mindi discovered her gift for teaching, an area she thrives in and takes advantage of every opportunity she gets.
Her style of writing and speaking mirrors a quote attributed to John Wesley, “Set yourself on fire and people will come if only to watch you burn.” Mindi’s passion is contagious and God often ignites the same fiery passion in the hearts of others through her writing and speaking.
In 2012, God opened a door for Mindi to start KingsWynd, LLC. It required great sacrifice, though not when comparing it to the awe-inspiring ways God has revealed Himself since. She has written 12 books thus far, and dedicates herself to this ministry with utmost joy.
She currently lives near Hilton Head, SC, with her husband and two daughters—daily savoring the captivating adventure God unfolds for them.
